SURP Program Bridges Rowan University With RCGC

The Summer University Research Program (SURP), sponsored by the Rowan University College of Science & Mathematics (CSM) allows students to do research with Rowan faculty. This elite program included three students who will be transferring to Rowan from Rowan College of Gloucester County (RCGC) in Fall 2017.

The “bridge program” is sponsored largely due to the generosity of RCGC President, Dr. Frederick Keating and funds from the NASA NJSG Consortium grant awarded to CSM. RCGC provided $10,000 to the program so that incoming RCGC transfer students, Charles Hughes, Ryan Palaganas and Ryan Calhoun, could experience research on Rowan’s campus before officially starting their career as a Rowan University student this fall.  The summer program’s goal is to help prepare transfer students for a fast transition into their major field of study.

“Having the opportunity to do physics research with a Rowan professor over the summer was a great experience,” said Hughes. “Thanks to Dr. Keating and my faculty mentor, Dr. Nucci, for providing me with this opportunity.”
