MS Data Science
Data science is the art and science of extracting knowledge from "Big Data". It is used in industry, government, and health to make intelligent business, operations, and scientific decisions. Mining and analyzing "Big Data" in the healthcare sector, like other economic sectors, is becoming increasingly essential. Data science is helping healthcare organizations make customer relationship management decisions, physicians identify effective treatments and best practices, patients receive better and more affordable healthcare services, pharmaceutical and biotech companies develop new and more effective treatments, and healthcare insurers detect fraud and abuse.
The M.S. in Data Science is designed for the student who already has a background in calculus, linear algebra, probability and random variables, proficiency in programming, data structures, and basic algorithms, but relatively little experience in analyzing large amounts of data. The program will allow students to be able to use data analytics skills in any area of specialization, and it prepares them to work as Big Data analysts or to take advantage of large amounts of data in their own disciplines. In addition, the program will allow students to be able to understand issues related to health data, as well as health privacy and economics.
Applying for the Graduate Programs
The Masters of Computer Science and the three Certificates of Graduate Studies are administered by the Global Learning & Partnerships of Rowan University (GLP).
-
Masters Degree in Data Science
(as described above) - Certificate of Graduate Studies - Health Data Management
-
Certificate of Graduate Studies - Computational Data Analytics
As Data Science is a vital area for the College of Science and Mathematics, we anticipate expanding both our graduate and undergraduate offerings in the near future.
