COGS in Autism Spectrum Disorder

Rowan University is pleased to announce our new interdisciplinary 15 credit hour Certificate of Graduate Study in Autism Spectrum Disorders (COGS in ASD).

Program Goal

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, more children than ever are being identified as having autism spectrum disorders. Until recently, researchers had believed that autism occurred in approximately 4-5 in 10,000 births. Current national data indicates that the of autism spectrum disorders is about 1 in 150 children. In New Jersey, the number of children classified as autistic has more than doubled in the past five years and according to the CDC, NJ now has the highest prevalence of autism spectrum disorders in the country.

This program is being developed to meet the increasing need for teachers and other school and behavioral professionals to understand autism spectrum disorders and to be able to teach and manage children with ASD. Currently, there are no graduate-level programs in ASD in New Jersey.
