About the speaker
Dr. Rhodora Romero-Aldemita is the Director of the International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications (ISAAA) Southeast Asia Center and the Director of the Global Knowledge Center on Crop Biotechnology of ISAAA based in the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines. She leads the development and publication of the Annual Global Status of Commercialized Biotech/GM Crops, coordinates the activities of ISAAA’s Biotechnology Information Centers, and the capacity building activities on biotechnology and biosafety in Asia in partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Croplife Asia, government and research institutions, as well as the Philippine Department of Agriculture Biotech Program Office (DA-BPO). She is also a member of the Technical Advisory Team of the Applied Biotechnology Committee of the DA-BPO, a board member of the Biotechnology Coalition of the Philippines, the editor-in-chief of the Philippine Journal of Crop Science, and a reviewer of several scientific journals.She holds a Ph.D. in Botany from Purdue University and Post-doctoral Fellowship at Albert-Ludwigs University (AUF), Freiburg, Germany and a B.S. degree in Agriculture and M.S. degree in Agronomy from the University of the Philippines Los Baños. She has published 31 papers in scientific journals and proceedings, and chapters in two books on biotechnology.
Dr. Aldemita also served as Chief Science Research Specialist and the Biotechnology Coordinator at Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) and was formerly a researcher at IRRI. Her research interests focused on genetic improvement of rice through genetic engineering. She has been a member of the Golden Rice Project team at AUF and PhilRice.

Individuals with autism and developmental disabilities face numerous barriers to accessing appropriate, affordable housing and residential services. This presentation will address the pressing need for housing and residential services for this growing population as well as laws, policies and procedures that govern eligibility and access. Both New Jersey and federal funding programs will be discussed. Barriers to expanding availability to a variety of models will be addressed as well as promising developments at both the state and national levels.
