Experiential Learning Opportunities
Our department offers three types of experiential learning courses: PSY 01426 Research Experience in Psychology, PSY 01422 Field Experiences in Psychology, and PSY 07300 Learning Assistant Seminar. These courses count as Psychology Electives and can be taken for up to 6 credits. Psychological Science (BS) majors are required to take PSY 01426 Research Experience in Psychology at least one time toward their major requirements.PSY 01426 Research Experience in Psychology
About this course:
PSY 01426 Research Experience in Psychology is an experiential learning course that allows students who are working in faculty research labs to gain course credit for their research experiences. The faculty research mentor and student will work together to identify the responsibilities and deliverables expected for this course. Students can register for the course up to two times. This course is a requirement for the Psychological Science (BS) major and could be used as a psychology elective or free elective for Psychology (BA) majors.

Prerequisites:
- Major in Psychology (BA) or Psychological Science (BS)
- Completed at least 60 credits
- Completed or currently registered for PSY 07303 Research Methods in Psychology
- Actively working in a psychology research lab at Rowan University

PSY 07300 Psychology Learning Assistant Seminar
The Learning Assistant (LA) Program is designed to enhance student learning and engagement through peer-facilitated instruction. LAs are advanced undergraduate students who support faculty members in selected psychology courses by assisting with active learning, tutoring students, and promoting academic success.
Learning Assistants can either receive course credit, volunteer, or use FWS funding.
The program aims to:- Improve the learning experience for students through collaborative and active learning.
- Provide meaningful teaching and leadership experience for Learning Assistants.
- Support faculty in implementing evidence-based teaching strategies.
To be considered for an LA position, a student must:
- Be a declared psychology (BA) or psychological science (BS) major. Other related majors may be considered.
- Have completed at least 30 credit hours (sophomore standing or higher).
- Have earned a minimum GPA of 3.0 overall and in psychology coursework.
- Have successfully completed the course they will assist with (or an equivalent) with a grade of A or A-.
- Obtain a faculty recommendation.
