Minor in Biological Sciences

Requirements

The Minor consists of 23-24 semester hours. In keeping with the policy of the B.A. and B.S. Biology programs, any Biology grade below a "C" will not count within the Minor.

Course requirements:

  • Option 1:
    • BIOL 01.104 Introduction to Evolution & Scientific Inquiry
    • BIOL 01.106 Introduction to Genetics
    • BIOL 01.203 Introduction to Cell Biology
    • BIOL 01.204 Introduction to Ecology
  • Option 2:
    • Biology I (transferred from another institution)
    • Biology II (transferred from another institution)
    • BIOL 01.202 Biology 3T: Biological Skills & Methods
    • BIOL 01.204 Introduction to Ecology
  • In addition to completing either Option 1 or Option 2 above, students must complete a minimum of two (2) additional Biology courses that are accepted for the Biology major and which are 300-level or above.  Students must complete a minimum of 23 semester hours total for the minor.

Students who transfer to Rowan having already completed the traditional Biology I and II will be enrolled in a special version of Biology 3, BIOL 01.202 Biology 3T: Biological Skills and Methods. This is a course designed to focus on the learning skills and hands-on science skills to which the Rowan students had been exposed in Rowan's Biology 1 and Biology 2. After successful completion of this special course for such transfer students, those students will proceed to Biology 4. Transfer courses other than Biology I and II will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
