Bioinformatics (BS)

Bioinformatics (BS)

B.S. in Bioinformatics

Bioinformatics is a multidisciplinary field of study that uses computational and statistical tools to answer large biological questions. The advent of next-generation DNA/RNA sequencing and other high-throughput biological techniques has resulted in extremely large datasets. In this degree program, students will learn underlying biological concepts as well the programming skills necessary to store, process and interpret such datasets that are essential in the modern research and biotechnology workforce.

Curriculum in the Bioinformatics major focuses on both biological and computational skill sets.  Students in the Bioinformatics major will begin their program by learning about the molecular processes that underlie human health and disease and ultimately transition into learning the computational skills to understand complex biological and biomedical problems. Students who complete this major will have the opportunity to take advanced curriculum in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Genetics, Genomics, Immunology, Physiology, Virology, among others.
