Research Expertise:
My major research question is, “how can we use our natural resources while maintaining biodiversity?” I mostly apply this to forest ecosystems, but it can also be applied to agriculture, mining, aquatic systems, etc. For example, I worked with undergraduate students and foresters in the Acadian Forest Ecosystem Research Project, exploring a harvest method that mimicked the natural disturbance regime to determine the effects on insect (especially click beetle) diversity. I also worked with undergraduate students and park rangers on a southern forest system with hemlock woolly adelgids (an invasive species) and several bio-control beetles.
More recently have been working with Rowan colleagues on developing an ecology curriculum to support Four Dimensional Ecology Education (https://www.esa.org/4DEE/).
