Abstract

This talk explores how chemists can effectively collaborate with large language models (LLMs) to enhance chemistry education, accelerate research workflows, and improve everyday scientific problem-solving. This presentation will define intelligence as the ability to compress complex information into predictive representations. It will explain how neural networks—and modern LLMs—efficiently handle high-dimensional scientific information through conditional prediction, connecting principles from human learning, chemistry, biology, and information processing. Using practical classroom examples, research case studies, and real-world demonstrations, the presentation emphasizes AI as a collaborative partner rather than a replacement for human expertise.

Location:  The February meeting will be held at Dave & Buster's in Blackwood, NJ.  It is conveniently located off both Route 55 and Route 42.  Directions via Google Maps can be accessed by clicking this link.
