Abstract

Since the 1960’s, NMR spectroscopy has been an analytical technique fruitfully
applied to structural elucidation and chemical identification. It is less appreciated as a tool for
physiochemical studies under conditions other than atmospheric pressure and temperature. For
over thirty years, Dupont, and now Chemours, has been applying specialty NMR methodologies
to liquid or gaseous samples, frequently under high temperature and/or high pressure. The
chemical specificity and inherent quantitative nature of NMR allows for real-time reaction
monitoring of complex chemical systems ¬in situ. The design and apparatus of such studies will
be discussed, along with several applications of these techniques.
