The CUGS in Industrial/Organizational Psychology (12 s.h.) is designed to provide students with an interdisciplinary approach to the scientific study of the workplace, and will help students obtain the background needed for a career in human resources or application to an Industrial/Organizational psychology graduate program. Classes will involve psychological theories and research critical to issues in the fields of psychology, business and industry. Students will become adept at small group theory and team processes, dynamics of leadership and management, and the structure and procedures of organizational development. In particular, classes examine the study of human behavior as it relates to employee productivity and well-being. This sequence provides students with a unique opportunity to learn about the relationship between psychology and organizational behavior and issues of critical relevance to the workplace. This CUGS is available to any matriculated Rowan student completing the required coursework.
Required Coursework (4 courses, 12 credits total):
- PSY 08310 Industrial/Organizational Psychology (prerequisite PSY01107)
- PSY 08220 Personnel Psychology (prerequisite PSY01107)
- PSY 05402 Psychology of Conflict and Conflict Resolution (prerequisite PSY01107)
- One (1) elective from the following list:
- CMS04240 Small Group Communication (prerequisite COMP 01112 or ENG 201201)
- CMS04241 Small Group Communication – WI (prerequisite COMP 01112 or ENG 01201)
- CMS 04260 Organizational Communication Theory and Research (prerequisite COMP 01112 OR ENGR 01201)
- PSY 01423 Seminar in Psychology (topic must be related to I/O field and approved by the coordinator;prerequisite PSY01107)
- PSY 01331 Occupational Health Psychology
