Ph.D. Clinical Psychology
The Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology follows a scientist-practitioner model featuring personalized guidance from faculty mentors in conducting high-quality original research projects. The program's emphasis on integrated healthcare and health psychology prepares students for research and practice in health care settings. Distinguishing features of the program include a) strong foundational training in clinical psychology, b) advanced training and clinical experience in integrated healthcare and health psychology, c) a strong commitment to the science of clinical psychology and the development of skills and experiences as a clinical scientist, and d) a commitment to diversity across research training.
The PhD program in clinical psychology is a rigorous program and only admits students attending on a full-time basis. The program is designed to be completed, typically, in five years, with four years of academic training on campus, and one year spent at an off-site APA-accredited clinical internship. Some students may take longer to complete the program, whereas students who begin with a MA degree may be able to complete all requirements in less time. Students are admitted to the program to work under the mentorship of program faculty and they are expected to work under this faculty’s mentorship throughout their training in our program.
Students in their second year of the program start practicum work at sites in the NJ, PA, and DE area, including the opportunity for interdisciplinary collaborations with Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, Rowan School of Osteopathic Medicine, and the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. The Rowan University Department of Clinical Psychology is committed to bringing together students and faculty from diverse backgrounds and emphasizes individual differences as well as interconnectedness between biological, psychological, and sociocultural factors.
