Biography

Education:
B.S. (Mathematics) University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, IN
M.S., Ph.D. (Mathematics) Courant Institute, New York University, New York, NY

Research Interests:
geophysical fluid dynamics; transport and dispersion analysis; applied dynamical systems; state estimation and predictability; sea ice and polar oceanography; mathematical, numerical and statistical modeling

I am an applied mathematician and have been tackling problems in oceanography and atmospheric science since graduate school.  I study transport patterns in ocean flows, their predictability, and how best to use models of different scales to piece the patterns together. Other research efforts are focused on data assimilation to improve models based on observations and sea ice dynamics.  As part of my involvement in a multi-institutional research consortium, I have also served as data manager and learned a ton about best practices for preparing, archiving, and sharing research data, range from lab experiments to field observations to model data.

I have taught college courses ranging from remedial math for incoming freshmen to graduate level numerical linear algebra; I also enjoy working with students on research projects.  So, if the above topics sound interesting to you and you are looking for a research opportunity, please get in touch.
