B.S. in Neuroscience
B.S. in Neuroscience
Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience
The B.S. in Neuroscience is an interdisciplinary study of the molecular, structural, cognitive, physiological and behavioral aspects of the brain, mind, and nervous system. This program will draw on the research expertise present on the main Glassboro campus in the College of Science & Mathematics as well as in Rowan’s two medical schools (Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine and Cooper Medical School of Rowan University), opening up exciting collaborative potential for our students.Career Paths
This major will prepare students with the knowledge, skills, and insight needed to succeed in fields such as industry, pharmaceutical science, laboratory careers, and potentially other careers involving public policy and communication. Students will be well equipped to advance to graduate programs in biology, psychology, and related fields, as well as medical and allied health fields.Curriculum
Neuroscience students will take a well-rounded curriculum that includes two semesters in basic biology, two semesters in physics, four semesters in general and organic chemistry, plus courses in psychology, calculus and statistics. Students will also take four foundational courses in neuroscience (including anatomy, physiology, cellular/molecular, and cognitive neuroscience areas). And there are two required courses either with a research or seminar focus, depending on the student’s ultimate career goals.Research & Internship Opportunities
The program includes a major clinic-based research component that will stretch across two semesters. Students will present a summary of their research experience to their peers at the end of the research sequence, as well as possibly at professional society meetings.
Some of our neuroscience-related researchers include:
- Thomas Keck (Chemistry)
- Gustavo Moura (Chemistry)
- Chun Wu (Chemistry)
- Lark Perez (Chemistry)
- Yong Chen (Biological Sciences)
- Thomas Ferraro (CMSRU)
- Gerald Hough (Psychology)
- Subash Jonnalagadda
- Barry Waterhouse (SOM)
