The Certificate of Undergraduate Study (CUGS) is offered to the general student population, especially those outside the Computer Science department who want to build a CS edge to their degree. CUGS are designed to increase a student’s marketability by enhancing their skill set and showing potential employers that they are tech-savvy, knowledgeable, and up-to-date on emerging technologies and trends.

List of CUGS
Advanced Network Technology
Available to all students, and can be completed as part of the BA in Computer Systems Technology degree. This program covers advanced topics about modern networks; including setup, problem troubleshooting, and security. Students will understand networks covering long distances, how they can be made more flexible, and how to automate their management.
Azure Fundamentals
Available to all students, and can be completed as part of the BA in Computer Systems Technology degree. This program covers a variety of Azure services and helps students build a toolbox of where and how to use these services in a business environment. This includes building a strong foundation in database design and security response plans to fit in a corporate standard.
Blockchain Technologies & Cryptocurrencies
Available for students except for CS and C&I majors. This certificate is designed to help students broaden their careers by enhancing their technical skill set. This program covers the basic programming and cryptographic techniques used in blockchain technologies, blockchain programming as well as the practical applications of blockchain.
Computer Programming
Available for students except for CS and C&I majors. This certificate is designed to help students broaden their careers by enhancing their technical skill set. This program offers a comprehensive study of the concepts and techniques necessary to analyze problems, understand requirements, develop algorithms and implement solutions using computer programming.
Cybersecurity
Available for students except for CS and C&I majors. This certificate is designed to help students broaden their careers by enhancing their technical skill set. This program provides a technical foundation for cyber security focused on the protection and defense of computer systems. Students will be able to articulate the core concepts of information assurance, asset protection, and cyber defense.
Cybersecurity in Information Technology
Available to all students, and can be completed as part of the BA in Computer Systems Technology degree. This program covers the IT basics of computer hardware, operating systems, applications, and networking. Students will gain experience with troubleshooting, operational procedures, vulnerability assessment, threat identification, security implementation, and incident response.
Database Development
Available to all students, and can be completed as part of the BA in Computer Systems Technology degree. This program goes in-depth into databases, covering everything from their history and business context to security measures. Students will also learn data analytics, including data visualization and processing techniques, as well as non-relational database systems.
Database Fundamentals
Available to all students, and can be completed as part of the BA in Computer Systems Technology degree. This program covers a range of topics related to database management and administration, including entity-relationship modeling, SQL queries, relational design, and database tools, as well as more advanced topics such as clustering, replication, and cloud-based architectures. Students will learn about key concepts like data dictionaries, indexes, and query optimization, as well as how to perform backups and recovery and monitor database performance.
Digital Forensics
Available to all students, and can be completed as part of the BA in Computer Systems Technology degree. This program covers topics related to computer forensics; including the investigation process, hard disks and file systems, data acquisition, and defeating anti-forensics techniques. Additionally, students will learn to apply these topics to incident handling and response, network and mobile incidents, insider threats, fitting official regulations, policies and ethics, obtaining digital evidence, standard procedures and methodologies, and hands-on experience with various tools and systems used in industry.
Ethical Hacking
Available to all students, and can be completed as part of the BA in Computer Systems Technology degree. This program a comprehensive overview of various topics related to ethical programming; evertyhing from planning and scoping to actual attacks and exploits. Students will gain proficiency in areas such as vulnerability analysis, system hacking, malware threats, social engineering, and much more. With a focus on practical skills and real-world applications, this program will equip students with the knowledge and tools needed to excel in the field of ethical hacking.
Fundamental Computing
Available for students except for CS and C&I majors. This certificate is designed to help students broaden their careers by enhancing their technical skill set. This is intended for students outside of the computer science department who want to learn the basics of computer science. Topics include programming, mobile applications, industry application of computing, as well as basic networks and security.
Internet of Things
This certificate is open to all, but designed specifically to target Computer Science and Electrical Engineering Students, as it goes deep into advanced degree topics. This program gives students a deep specialization in the Internet of Things and Cloud Computing and Embedded systems technologies, and prepares them for the ever-growing IoT field.
Intrusion Detection/Prevention
Available to all students, and can be completed as part of the BA in Computer Systems Technology degree. This program covers essential topics in intrusion detection and prevention. Students will learn how to search, transform and analyze data, as well as create interactive reports and dashboards, configure and monitor servers, manage indexes, and deploy and manage apps while ensuring data security with user authentication and authorization.
Linux Systems Administration
Available to all students, and can be completed as part of the BA in Computer Systems Technology degree. This program provides in-depth knowledge of Linux architecture and administration. Students will learn about the Linux/UNIX hierarchical file structure, basic protection/permission features, system administration tasks, and file editing operations.
Mobile Application Development
Available for students except for CS and C&I majors. This certificate is designed to help students broaden their careers by enhancing their technical skill set. This program gives students an understanding of the stages of mobile application development including user interface design, permissions, and security, graphics, and video resources.
Network Fundamentals
Available to all students, and can be completed as part of the BA in Computer Systems Technology degree. This program provides students with experience in using and connecting hardware components and PC and mobile devices together in a network. Students will learn about different network and connection types such as TCP, IP, and WIFI, as well as network troubleshooting and security.
Operating Systems Fundamentals
Available to all students, and can be completed as part of the BA in Computer Systems Technology degree. This program goes in-depth into Linux and Windows operating systems. Students will be proficient in bash shell scripting and file editing, as well as configuration and management of these operating systems.
