Biography

I have been working in various positions in IT for the past 25 years. I started as the nighttime Computer Operator at Memorial Hospital of Burlington County in 1995, where I would spend 8 hours running processing jobs, loading up high-speed printers with boxes of paper, then distributing the reports around the hospital.  I transitioned to desktop support after a few months. For that period, desktop support meant green screen terminals and dot matrix printers.

Eventually, I moved to PC support and then transitioned to the Newspaper Industry.  I worked for the Courier Post Newspaper in Cherry Hill then the Daily Journal Newspaper in Vineland. During that time, I maintained the various computer systems that included PCs, Sun UNIX Workstations, IBM AS/400s, and Windows servers. The best part of my Newspaper career was meeting my wife, who was a graphic designer in the Editorial department. As newspaper circulation was dwindling from the boom of the Internet, I decided to move on.
In 2007, I went to work at Virtua Health as a Network Engineer, where I specialized in upgrading the Wireless Network Infrastructure. My largest project was the design and implementation of the wireless network for Virtua’s newly built 587 bed Voorhees Hospital. After 6 years in Healthcare, I wanted to experience new challenges and move over to Rowan University as a Network Engineer. I implemented parts of the network transition of the School of Osteopathic Medicine and its clinics from UMDNJ to Rowan. I also designed and implemented wireless in several new dorms and academic buildings. While at Rowan, I started teaching classes as an adjunct for the Computer Science depart in 2015.

Wanting a change from working on Wireless Networks full time, I moved on to Cooper University Hospital in 2017, where I am currently the Advisory Network Engineer for Security. In this role, I get to work on Firewalls, VPNs, logging databases, and security monitoring tools. Every day is a new challenge.

Even outside of work, my hobbies tend to include gadgets or technology. I am a licensed ham radio operator, avid video gamer, and an aspiring maker of woodworking projects and 3D printed things.

On an academic note, I graduated in 2001 with an AA of Management of Information System from Burlington County College. In 2011, I graduated from Thomas Edison State College with a BA in Computer Science. In 2014, I completed a Master of Science in Information Assurance (Cyber Security) from Capital Technical University. I am #RowanProud being a 2015 Rowan graduate with a MS degree in Computer Science. I also have several current industry certifications such as CCNP, CCDP, and CISSP . I have had other certifications that have expired over the years, such as CNA, MCSE, GAWN, GCFA and ACMP.
