Biography

Prof. Orta is an experienced IT data management professional with a strong background in database engineering, business intelligence, enterprise data architecture, and Operations. Originally from Caracas, Venezuela, he pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering while working full-time as an Oracle Database Administrator. His career eventually led him to work for Oracle Corporation, where he worked as a consultant, gaining extensive experience in database technologies, system architecture, and IT strategy.

Over the years, Prof. Orta has held leadership roles in various industries, including finance, telecommunications, government, software, manufacturing, and entertainment. He is currently the IT Manager at a major U.S. retail company, overseeing the Database engineering, Command Center, and Production Control teams. Additionally, he founded a consulting firm that provides subject-matter expertise (SME) in Oracle-related technologies and enterprise data solutions.

In academia, Prof. Orta teaches Computer Science, Programming Languages (C++), Data Structures, Implementations of SQL I and II, and Database Administration I and II (he has authored these last four)  at Rowan University. He has also taught Management of Information Systems and Introduction to Computer Science at the University of Phoenix. His passion for teaching stems from his early career at Oracle, where he regularly conducted technical training sessions for IT professionals.

Beyond his professional and academic commitments, Prof. Orta has been a frequent speaker at Oracle user groups and maintains a technical blog covering database technologies, system optimization, and enterprise IT strategies. He holds a Master’s in Computer Science specializing in knowledge-based systems and database management from NJIT, he is a SCRUM master and fundamentals certified, an Oracle Certified Professional DBA, and a Private Pilot.  

His diverse experience in both industry and education allows him to bring a practical, real-world perspective to his teaching and consulting work.
