CS Awards
The Computer Science department periodically issues department awards for our most accomplished students. Here are the students who have won awards for the Spring 2023 Semester, and a short description of their accomplishments.
CS Medallion Award : Stephan M. Temple
Stephen Teeple exemplifies the highest standard of excellence with the 2023 Computer Science Nhan Huynh Medallion Award. In addition to his high academic achievements, he serves on the Upsilon Pi Epsilon Honor Society E-Board and is a member of the Pi Mu Epsilon Math Honor Society. He also volunteers his time as a Math tutor and gives back to the department as a CS Learning Assistant and Tutor. This summer, Stephen plans to return to Lockheed Martin for his fourth internship and will continue with his graduate studies in our Rowan Computer Science Combined Advanced Degree Program in the Fall.

Dean's Outstanding Senior Award (DOSA): Julia Bowes
Julia Bowes is a born leader in the CS Department and University. She is currently Vice President of Upsilon Pi Epsilon Honor Society and has volunteered every year as a CS Learning Assistant and Tutor. As an accomplished athlete, she has served as Captain of RU Women’s Volleyball, President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council, and Campus Captain & President of the Hidden Opponent Chapter. In her role as Admissions Coordinator, she helps with efforts to recruit and support all University students. After graduation, Julia plans to stay connected with volleyball while starting her position as a Software Engineer at Amazon.

Dean's Outstanding Senior Award (DOSA): Christopher Lange
Christopher Lange is an exemplary citizen of the Computer Science Department. In addition to the Rowan Honors College, he is the current Treasurer for Upsilon Pi Epsilon Honor Society and has also served as a CS Learning Assistant, Research Assistant at Bristol Myers-Squibb, Rowan Academic Integrity Appeals Board student representative, and the CS Web Team Manager for three years. Chris also received the 2021 Lockheed Martin STEM Scholarship as well as the Rowan Silver and Bronze Leadership Certificates. After completing summer internships at Bristol Myers-Squibb and Amazon, he is excited to be joining Amazon as a Software Engineer after graduation.

CS Outstanding Senior Award (CS OSA): Cameron Markey
Cameron Markey’s many accomplishments include receiving scholarships for Amazon Future Engineers and Grace Hopper Celebrations, assisting with UG research for Bristol Myers Squibb, winning the Capital One Software Engineering Hackathon, serving as a CS Learning Assistant/Tutor, mentoring young women as a Capital One Coder and as a member of Rewriting the Code STEM group, giving back through Circle K volunteer club where she was also recognized as SGA Outstanding Treasurer, and interning at Amazon Web Services, JP Morgan Chase, and Capital One. She plans to continue mentoring girls in CS, while she works as a Software Engineer at Capital One.

CS Outstanding Senior Award (CS OSA): Nathanael Costa
Nathanael Costa graduated with his BS in Computer Science, concentration in Mobile Application Development, and minor in Philosophy. In addition to his high academic achievements, Nathanael also served as a CS Learning Assistant/Tutor and as Treasurer for the Rowan Reformed University Fellowship club. He was the primary developer for the RaceDay Mobile Timing application at RunSignup, which he started in Software Engineering class and then continued to work on as he participated in the CS Co-op Program. Nathanael has been accepted to Westminster Theological Seminary to complete his Master of Divinity degree and plans to move into pastoral ministry.

CS Outstanding Graduate Award (CS OGA): Jake Findlow
Jake Findlow is a dual major in Computer Science and Mathematics with a concentration in Cybersecurity. He is a member of Pi Mu Epsilon Honor Society and the Cybersecurity club. In the Math department, he serves as a tutor, peer mentor, and is working on research with Dr. Umashanger. This past summer, he interned with SHI International in Software Development working on their Application and Data/Platform teams. He will be returning to Rowan in the fall for his graduate studies in our Computer Science Combined Advanced Degree Program and plans to continue post-graduation work in Software Development or Cybersecurity.

CS Outstanding Graduate Award (CS OGA): Mathew Williams
Mathew Williams is graduating with his BS and MS in Computer Science as part of the accelerated Combined Advanced Degree Program (CADP) with concentrations in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, and Software Engineering. He also has a minor in Mathematics and was a member of Upsilon Pi Epsilon Honor Society. He is currently an Evaluation Assistant with Dr. Ho and a Research Assistant with Dr. Kokalj-Filipovic working on Deep Learning using Topological Data Analysis. Additionally, he has worked with Dr. Breitzman to investigate relationships between social determinants and hospital readmissions at Inspira, and has served as a CS Learning Assistant/Tutor.

CS Outstanding Graduate Award (CS OGA): Nicholas Bovee
Nicholas Bovee is completing his MS in Computer Science while currently working as a Staff Mechanical Engineer with the Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering and is also a member of the Upsilon Pi Epsilon Honor Society. He has conducted CS research with Dr. Ning Wang in methods to accelerate DNN inference on edge computing and has also extended research on the NSF grant for Cooperative AI Inference in Vehicular Edge Networks with Dr. Shen-Shyang Ho. After graduation, he plans to continue working on his NSF Cooperative AI research as well as collaborating on automation integration with Grapple Control Systems.
