Removing Permanent IP Addresses of IP Cameras

JACOB A. KERSHAW

Throughout the years a variety of distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks has emerged with the growth of the Internet. DDoS attacks have prevented many internet users from accessing websites and devices that are on the network; stopping users from a couple of minutes to several hours. In 2016 some of the largest DDoS were recorded with attack rates of at least 1.1 terabits per second. In 2017 on average, organizations experienced over 200 DDoS attack attempts per month, roughly eight attacks per day. The internet of things (IoT) devices used in the attacks were primarily internet-connected cameras. In this project, a new method is developed to improve the security of IP cameras so attackers will not be able to access or shut them down. By removing the camera’s IP address and only sending information to a specific user they will be impenetrable to attacks.
